"What the Hell is Wrong with Me?" Seminar - Live-Online (11 Jul)
“It’s all in your head.”
If you’ve ever been dismissed with those words — or watched someone you love struggle with symptoms that no test could explain — this webinar is for you.
One in ten people live with what doctors call functional symptoms — real, sometimes debilitating experiences of pain, fatigue, weakness, or loss of function that elude conventional diagnosis. Up to one in three GP visits involve these very symptoms. Yet most people who experience them have never heard the term, let alone found a clear path forward.
Of course these days, we know so much more about how the mind and body are inseparable. In this special webinar, Dr Gillian Deakin — GP, researcher, 50-year meditation practitioner, and author of What the Hell is Wrong with Me? — brings these two worlds together in a conversation that could change how you understand health, healing, and your own inner practice.
About the Book
Born from over 40 years of medical practice and decades of personal meditation, Dr Deakin’s book is the toolkit that patients with unexplained symptoms have long been waiting for. Using the lens of the body’s seven stress response systems, she reframes “unexplained” symptoms not as mysteries but as disruptions in the body’s software — disruptions that, with the right understanding and tools, can be healed.
Praised by patients, GPs, and international specialists alike as “clear, warm, and actionable,” the book outlines a six-step recovery path that integrates cutting-edge neuroscience with the ancient wisdom of mind–body practices — including meditation.
You might want to dip into her book before the session. What the Hell Is Wrong with Me? is available now through all major booksellers.
What You’ll Explore in This Webinar
Over the course of the webinar, Dr Deakin will guide you through:
- What functional symptoms really are — and why they are neither imagined nor faked, but a genuine disturbance in the body’s regulatory systems
- The seven body stress systems — a revolutionary framework for understanding how chronic stress, trauma, and emotion are held in the body
- Why meditation is uniquely powerful in restoring these systems — and how your existing practice gives you a head start in recovery
- The nocebo effect and the role of thought — how negative beliefs can deepen symptoms, and how mindful awareness can reverse this cycle
- A six-step path to recovery — practical, evidence-based, and accessible whether you are managing your own symptoms or supporting others
- Live Q&A with Dr Deakin — bring your questions, your curiosity, and your own experience
